Bulgaria Air Airbus A220

Bulgaria Air, the flag carrier airline of Bulgaria, has received its first A220 aircraft, leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) through Airbus’ facility in Mirabel, Canada. The new A220 will operate on both regional and international routes across Europe. As part of the lease agreement with ALC, Bulgaria Air will eventually have a total of five A220-300s and two A220-100s in its fleet.

The A220 is the latest-generation aircraft manufactured by Airbus, and it marks a significant addition to Bulgaria Air’s fleet, which already includes seven A320 aircraft. The first A220 delivered to Bulgaria Air will be configured to accommodate a total of 143 seats, featuring a dual-class setup, including eight Business class seats.

One of the A220’s key features is its suitability for the 100-150 seat market, being purpose-built for this segment. Additionally, the A220 supports Bulgaria Air’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry. It boasts up to 25% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft. Furthermore, it exceeds industry standards by emitting 50% lower NOx emissions, and it significantly reduces aircraft noise footprint by half compared to older models.

The popularity of the A220 is evident, with Airbus having received nearly 800 orders from 30 customers as of the end of May 2023. Out of those, 265 aircraft have already been delivered to various airlines worldwide. This indicates the aircraft’s strong market appeal and its potential to revolutionize air travel in the 100-150 seat range.
