Calif. bullet train route extensions move forward

The California High-Speed Rail Authority has approved proposed extensions of a bullet train system between Los Angeles and San Francisco. One extension calls for high-speed rail stations in Millbrae and San Francisco; design contracts also have been approved for a 33.9-mile rail connection between Merced and Madera and an 18.5-mile section from Shafter to Bakersfield.
