Calif. city, county work on tax deal for hotel purchase

Officials in San Mateo County and Redwood City, Calif., disagree on the amount of compensation the city should receive for lodging tax revenue it lost when the county purchased two hotels in the city to house vulnerable residents. Redwood City officials are seeking $2.5 million, but County Manager Mike Callagy is offering $1.5 million.
