Canada’s Lynx Air adds its first aircraft, 737-8 Max
Lynx Air (Y9, Calgary) took delivery of its first aircraft – a B737-8 – on February 14, 2022, after C-GJSL (msn 44312) was ferried from Seattle Boeing Field to Calgary in the start-up’s full livery.
Formerly known as Enerjet, the nascent low-cost carrier plans to take three B737-8s during the first quarter of 2022, all of which are sales/lease-backs from Aergo Capital. The start of scheduled flights is slated for April 7. Going forward, the airline has ambitious growth plans with orders and lease commitments for 46 Boeing aircraft due over the next six years.
Lynx Air will compete directly with WestJet subsidiary Swoop (WO, Hamilton, ON) and Flair Airlines (F8, Kelowna), both of which are currently adding B737-8s to their legacy B737-800 fleets.
Lynx Air is backed by Indigo Partners, a US-based fund with stakes in numerous LCCs around the world, including Frontier Airlines, Wizz Air, JetSMART, and Volaris.
