Canada’s Lynx Air Secures Approval for European Flights
Canada’s ultra-low-cost carrier, Lynx Air, has received ten international licences for scheduled passenger services with large aircraft, allowing operations to European Union member states, Iceland, the United Kingdom, and several other countries. The Canadian Transportation Agency granted the licences on September 25, marking a significant milestone for the airline.
The licences cover operations to the following regions and countries:
- European Union member states
- Iceland
- Barbados
- The Bahamas
- Colombia
- Costa Rica
- United Kingdom
- Mexico
- Jamaica
- Dominican Republic
While the filings did not specify destination airports or the choice of large aircraft, Lynx Air currently operates a fleet of nine Boeing B737-8s. With additional orders for seventeen B737-8s and twenty-one B737-8-200s, the airline is poised for further expansion.
As Lynx Air focuses on high-volume domestic routes in Canada and select US destinations, the approval for international services opens up new opportunities for the carrier. The range of the B737-8, at 6,482 kilometers, makes destinations like Reykjavik Keflavik within reach from its Calgary base.
The airline’s plans for European routes and specific launch dates are yet to be announced.
