Cannabis-Friendly Hotels and Resorts to Consider as Industry’s Marijuana Options Grow
As interest continues to rise in marijuana-related tourism, more and more hotel and resort brands are leaning into the trend and incorporating more 4/20-friendly accommodations and packages.
From Las Vegas adding its first cannabis-friendly property to the Attorney General of Hawaii saying the state would consider legalizing the recreational use of marijuana, the top travel destinations in the United States continue to embrace cannabis tourism.
Data from Forbes showed the cannabis tourism industry was already worth $17 billion in 2022, and a Gallup poll from 2021 found that 49 percent of Americans have at least tried marijuana, with 12 percent of respondents regularly using it.
Another study conducted by Kayak found that nearly 33 percent of American travelers 21 years of age and older are interested in visiting a cannabis dispensary while traveling and about 25 percent of respondents ages 21-34 have already traveled to a destination because cannabis was legal.
The hotel industry is also looking to take advantage of the marijuana industry, as experts from Penn State claim worldwide sales are expected to hit $55.9 billion by 2026. With legalization in Colorado and Washington, hotel bookings grew by 3.5 percent and 7.2 percent when commercial sales began in 2014. As a result, average room rates in Colorado also jumped 3.8 percent.
With cannabis tourism budding, here are some marijuana-friendly hotels and resorts.
The Lexi in Las Vegas
In Las Vegas, Elevations Hotels and Resorts announced the transformation of the 64-room Artisan Hotel into The Lexi, which is believed to be the first cannabis-friendly property in Las Vegas.
The hotel’s renovation is scheduled for completion this spring and will feature new guest rooms and suites, “including an entire fourth floor that will be designated cannabis-friendly with each room featuring a state-of-the-art RestorAir filtration system that employs advanced oxidation cell technology,” hotel officials said.
Scotia Lodge in California
After making its debut in 2021, the 22-room Scotia Lodge near Redwoods State Park in Scotia, California, has brought luxury to the idea of being cannabis friendly. The four-star property offers weed-friendly amenities like a cannabis delivery menu and an outdoor smoking area accessible to hotel and restaurant guests.
While smoking is not permitted inside the facilities, guests are welcome to partake in cannabis edibles or tinctures in their rooms. Scotia Lodge’s parent company, Humboldt Social, also revealed plans for further expansion in the hospitality space.
Other Cannabis-Friendly Properties
As more hotels and resorts embrace the changing viewpoint of marijuana’s legalization, travelers looking for different wellness-, nature- and culture-related tourism will continue incorporating marijuana into the experience.
