Caribbean Airlines resumes schedules as borders reopen

Caribbean Airlines (BW, Port of Spain) will phase in the resumption of scheduled flights with the re-opening of borders in Trinidad and Tobago on July 17, 2021, the airline announced.

Operations between Port of Spain (Trinidad) and the Eastern Caribbean will resume first, alongside the re-start of flights to New York, Miami, and Toronto.

The flight schedule out of Trinidad to the Eastern Caribbean will look as follows:

• Bridgetown, Barbados: 3x weekly (Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays);
• St. Vincent Argyle Int’l, St Vincent and the Grenadines: 2x weekly (Wednesdays and Sundays);
• Grenada: 3x weekly (Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays).

Rotations from Trinidad to the US and Canada will operate as follows:

• New York JFK: 4x weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays);
• Toronto Pearson: 1x weekly (Thursdays);
• Miami Int’l: 4x weekly (Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays).

The carrier on July 17 will also add new additions to its network from Trinidad:

• Georgetown Ogle, Guyana: 2x weekly (Wednesdays and Fridays);
• Dominica Douglas-Charles, Dominica, Eastern Caribbean: 1x weekly (Thursdays there and Saturdays back).

The airline’s daily service to Georgetown Cheddi Jagan in Guyana will also continue.

Flights to Jamaica, Orlando, and St. Lucia will be added from August 13 and 16 respectively, with other destinations to be added later on, the airline said in a statement.

As reported previously, the airline is currently undergoing restructuring which will see its current fleet of 16 aircraft downsized to eight jets and five turboprops, and its workforce reduced by 25%. The airline currently has seven ATR72-600s and nine B737-800s, with four B737-8s on order, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module reveals. The carrier is majority-owned by the government of Trinidad & Tobago with the Jamaican government holding a minority share.
