Carnival Cruise Line Embraces Duck Hiding Tradition with New Mascot

Cruise enthusiasts have long enjoyed a delightful pastime of hiding small rubber ducks around cruise ships for children to discover. This fun phenomenon has gained traction across various family-friendly cruise lines, inspiring dedicated social media pages and websites. However, until now, it was never officially recognized by the cruise lines themselves.

In an exciting development, Carnival Cruise Line has decided to embrace this passenger-led activity by introducing a duck mascot, as reported by Yahoo News. The announcement came from Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, who recently revealed the mascot on his Facebook page. Heald introduced the new addition with enthusiasm, stating, “I would like to introduce you to a brilliant and fun addition to the ships. Coming soon to your cruise, you’re going to see the continuation of the duck phenomenon. Here with Carnival Jubilee Hotel Director Pierre and Hotel Director Greg, please meet ummmm…Ducky the Duck.”

While specific details on how the new duck mascot will be utilized have yet to be released, Heald has addressed mixed reactions from passengers. One cruise guest made a critical comment about Ducky, prompting Heald to delete the post, emphasizing that the mascot wouldn’t interfere with guests’ experiences. “This duck is not going to be chasing you around the ship, it’s not going to be in your cabin. It’s not going to affect your cruise at all,” he wrote. Heald encouraged guests to focus on enjoying their cruise, suggesting that those uninterested in the mascot simply engage in activities that bring them joy.

On the flip side, many social media users have expressed their excitement for the new mascot. Bonnie Erskine Johnson, a Facebook user, shared her enthusiasm, stating, “We LOVE the duck! My granddaughters and I adore finding and hiding ducks. The ducks aren’t hurting anything, and the new ‘mascot’ is great! We’re on the Vista on the 30th and hope to see Ducky.”

With Carnival Cruise Line officially joining in on the duck-hiding fun, it’s clear that this lighthearted tradition will continue to thrive, bringing joy and smiles to families on board.
