Carnival Denies Rumors About Music and Dance Rule Changes

Carnival Cruise Line has refuted widespread online rumors suggesting the cruise line has banned certain music genres, dance moves, or cultural accessories on its ships. The company says many of the claims are either outdated or entirely false.

Social media posts had alleged bans on clacking fans often used during onboard dancing, as well as popular line dances like the “Wobble.” Some even claimed Carnival had restricted hip hop and rap music, sparking concern from guests who viewed these alleged changes as culturally discriminatory.

Carnival, however, says these reports are not accurate. “Unfortunately, various media outlets have misconstrued the matter and blown it out of proportion,” said Matt Lupoli, Carnival’s Senior Vice President of Public Relations. He explained that Carnival continues to offer a diverse array of music and entertainment options, including expanded theme nights in onboard nightclubs.

Instead of reducing music variety, Carnival clarified that it has extended themed music nights, allowing genres such as R&B, Latin, and Caribbean to be played throughout the night. Carnival brand ambassador John Heald added that shipboard DJs aim to cater to a wide range of tastes among guests.

The cruise line did ban Bluetooth speakers in late 2024 and previously introduced a curfew for unaccompanied minors. But the clack fans are only prohibited in indoor clubs for safety reasons and remain permitted in outdoor spaces like the Lido deck.

Carnival reiterated its commitment to inclusivity and guest safety, emphasizing that any adjustments are intended to ensure a positive experience for all travelers.
