Carnival Expands Fresh Meal Donations to Latin America

Carnival Corporation & plc is expanding its fresh meal donation program to Latin America for the first time, strengthening its commitment to fighting hunger and reducing food waste across its global cruise network.

The company has signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with food banks and community partners in Mexico, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. These agreements make Carnival the first cruise company to formalize meal donation partnerships in these regions. The local food banks are part of the Global FoodBanking Network, which works to alleviate hunger through efficient food recovery and distribution systems.

Launched in 2017, Carnival’s fresh meal donation program collects extra prepared but unserved meals from its ships and distributes them to communities in need through certified local partners. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which focuses on minimizing food waste while giving back to the destinations that welcome its ships.

So far, the program has helped deliver more than 300,000 nutritious meals to families and communities worldwide. With the addition of these three new ports, Carnival’s meal donation program now operates in 19 destinations globally, reflecting its expanding humanitarian reach.

“Expanding the program into Latin America allows us to give back to the amazing ports and destinations that warmly welcome our guests and make their visits so memorable,” said Vicky Rey, vice president of government affairs for Latin America at Carnival Corporation. “Our goal is to help feed families and children who may not have a hot meal every day by donating healthy and delicious meals prepared but not served onboard.”

Through this initiative, Carnival Corporation is not only enhancing its sustainability efforts but also deepening its ties with local communities. The expansion reinforces the company’s ongoing mission to combine responsible tourism with meaningful social impact—ensuring that every voyage contributes positively to the regions it visits.
