Cathay Pacific has placed an order for 14 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, bringing its total order for the next-generation widebody jet to 35. The announcement, made on August 6, underscores the Hong Kong-based airline’s long-term strategy to modernize its fleet and meet rising demand for international air travel.

The Boeing 777-9 is the world’s largest and most efficient twin-engine passenger aircraft. Compared to the aircraft it replaces, the 777-9 offers a 20% reduction in fuel use and emissions and is 40% quieter. With a range of 7,295 nautical miles (13,510 kilometers), the aircraft will enable Cathay Pacific to operate more efficiently on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes from its Hong Kong hub.

Cathay Pacific has relied on the Boeing 777 family for over three decades to support its global network. The new 777-9 will help lower operating costs and enhance passenger and cargo services.

“This latest order demonstrates the value of the 777-9 and further strengthens Cathay Pacific’s tradition of delivering superb comfort, convenience, and connectivity,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing.
