Cathay Pacific Group Hits 100 Destinations, Posts Strong May Growth

The Cathay Pacific Group, comprising Cathay Pacific, Cathay Cargo, and HK Express, marked a major milestone in May 2025, reaching 100 global destinations for the first time. This achievement coincided with strong monthly growth across all segments and a series of prestigious awards.
Cathay Pacific reported a 36.1% year-on-year rise in passengers for May, with a 31.2% increase in capacity (ASKs). Load factor hit 84.7%, the highest for May since 2015. Growth was supported by early student travel, a special fares campaign, and robust demand for long-haul and business travel.
Cathay Cargo recorded a 12.2% year-on-year cargo increase in May, with demand driven by Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland markets. The airline’s live animal transport solutions, including seafood and horses, also saw strong demand. Cathay Cargo was named “Airline of the Year – Asia” at the 2025 World Air Cargo Awards.
HK Express carried over 640,000 passengers in May, up 35.7% year-on-year, with ASKs rising 42.6%. Though load factor dipped due to increased capacity, the airline set a new monthly seat record and launched new routes to Changzhou and Yiwu. June and July will see launches to Cheongju, Daegu, Miyako-Shimojishima, Guiyang, and Kuala Lumpur-Subang.
Group Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau highlighted ongoing enhancements, including lounge renovations at Hong Kong International Airport and new long-haul destinations. Cathay Pacific was ranked among the world’s top three airlines by Skytrax and won awards for Best Economy Class and Best Inflight Entertainment, reinforcing its reputation for service excellence.
