Cathay Pacific Reports Strong October Growth
Cathay Pacific recorded significant growth in October 2024, operating over 10,000 flights for the first time this year. The airline carried 2,014,105 passengers, marking a 19.6% increase compared to October 2023, while revenue passenger kilometers rose by 19.1%. However, the network load factor dipped slightly to 83.1% due to a 21.3% rise in available seat kilometers. Cumulatively, passenger numbers from January to October grew by 27.4% to over 18.5 million, supported by expanded capacity.
The airline attributed its strong performance to leisure travel during the National Day “Golden Week” and the Chung Yeung Festival, with Japan emerging as a popular destination. Business travel also surged due to conventions and exhibitions in Hong Kong and the Canton Fair in Guangzhou. The month saw a record number of premium cabin passengers since the pandemic. Cathay also launched a non-stop service to Riyadh, which has received strong demand from various regions.
On the cargo front, the airline transported 142,323 tonnes in October, a 14.3% increase year-on-year. The cargo load factor rose to 61.5%, driven by strong demand for e-commerce, high-tech goods, and perishables. Cumulative cargo tonnage for the year grew by 10.4% to over 1.2 million tonnes.
Looking ahead, Cathay Pacific expects a strong holiday travel season, with Japan as a top destination. New seasonal and resumed routes, along with continued demand for cargo services, underscore the airline’s steady recovery and growth.
