Cathay Pacific has announced plans to launch direct flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Urumqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) in northwestern China. The new service will operate four times a week, starting on April 28, 2025, using Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Urumqi will become Cathay Pacific’s 20th destination in mainland China.

Lavinia Lau, Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, highlighted that Urumqi is a significant addition to the airline’s network, directly linking Hong Kong with an important Belt and Road hub. Lau emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering more choices for travelers between Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond.

Urumqi will be the Cathay Group’s 11th new route announced in 2025, with plans to expand to 100 global destinations by the end of the year. In addition to Urumqi, Cathay Pacific is set to launch new routes from Hong Kong to Hyderabad (HYD), Dallas (DFW), Rome (FCO), Munich (MUC), and Brussels (BRU) in 2025.

Cathay’s low-cost carrier, HK Express, also continues to expand, with new services to Sendai (SDJ) in Japan, and upcoming flights to Nha Trang (CXR), Komatsu (KMQ), New Ishigaki (ISG), and Miyako Shimojishima (SHI).
