Cathay Pacific’s new The Deck lounge will open in Hong Kong
Cathay Pacific’s new The Deck lounge in Hong Kong International Airport’s Terminal 1 will open its doors to passengers on March 22, 2018.
Located near Gate 16 on Level 7, The Deck is the airline’s former Dragonair G16 lounge and will be the first of Cathay Pacific’s lounges to be managed by new operator Sodexo, which is replacing the current operator of the airline’s Hong Kong lounges, Plaza Premium Group.
The Deck will follow a similar design to Cathay Pacific’s existing lounges in Hong Kong and airports overseas, with natural materials, greenery and artworks from local artists being prominent features of the new lounge’s design.
“The Deck builds on the formula that has made our other new lounges around the world so popular with our customers,” said Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer, Paul Loo.
“Investing in experiences that our customers value and consider important is at the heart of our product and service philosophy, and helps us differentiate ourselves from any other airline.”
Unfortunately, the opening of The Deck will be followed shortly after by the closure of the airline’s The Cabin lounge, which is located in Terminal 1 near Gate 23, on April 30.
Despite this, premium passengers do have a number of unique features to look forward to with The Deck, notably The Terrace area. This open-ceiling, L-shaped veranda takes advantage of the lounge’s location on a balcony on the eastern side of the Terminal 1 building – the only Cathay Pacific lounge in Hong Kong to have such a feature – and will offer both individual seating and tables that overlook the airport’s apron, taxi-ways and northern runway.
Other key features of the new lounge include a relaxation room that will have bespoke Solo chairs, eight shower suites and washroom facilities.
And while The Deck is going to have its food and beverage managed by Sodexo rather than Plaza Premium, the lounge will offer its own iteration of the airline’s popular Noodle Bar, which is also available at many of Cathay Pacific’s other lounges.
Among the noodle dishes available to passengers will be wonton soup noodles, fish ball noodles, Singaporean laksa, Taiwanese beef noodles as well as ready-to-order dan dan noodles and Japanese vegetarian noodles. Other Hong Kong dishes, such as dim sum and buns, will also be available, while the Main Lounge area will offer self-service international fare.
The Deck spans approximately 823 sqm and has seating capacity for about 180 people.
Both first and business class passengers will be able to access the lounge, along with Silver, Gold and Diamond Marco Polo Club members, with Gold members able to bring one guest and Diamond members two guests. Oneworld alliance Sapphire and Emerald members can also enter with one guest when flying on Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon or other Oneworld carrier flights.
