Cebu Pacific Adds New Airbus A321neo to Fleet
Philippine low-cost airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) has further expanded its fleet with the arrival of a new Airbus A321neo, marking the 12th aircraft the carrier has received since the beginning of 2024. The latest addition, a 236-seater aircraft with registration MSN 12067 | RP-C4146, landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila on September 26, 2024, after a journey that started at the Airbus facility in Hamburg-Finkenwerder, Germany.
The A321neo’s route to Manila included stops at Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Oman and Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This delivery highlights Cebu Pacific’s ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet with more fuel-efficient aircraft as part of its broader strategy to enhance network efficiency and promote sustainable air travel.
The arrival of the new A321neo follows closely on the heels of another addition to the fleet, an A320neo aircraft, just two weeks prior. These acquisitions are part of Cebu Pacific’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and moving towards its ambitious net-zero emissions goal by 2050. The airline has been actively working to expand its route network and introduce new destinations, improving connectivity and service offerings for its passengers.
Xander Lao, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Cebu Pacific, expressed enthusiasm about the new aircraft: “This latest aircraft delivery aligns with our goal of enhancing our fleet and expanding our network to better serve every Juan. With each fuel-efficient aircraft we welcome to our fleet, we are taking steps toward achieving our net zero goal by 2050, while continuing to open more routes and introduce new destinations for our passengers.”
In a significant move earlier this year, on July 2, 2024, Cebu Pacific signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the purchase of up to 152 A321neo aircraft. The deal, valued at USD $24 billion (PHP 1.4 trillion) based on list prices, represents the largest aircraft order in Philippine aviation history, underscoring Cebu Pacific’s ambitious plans for expansion and modernization.
Cebu Pacific’s investment in new, more efficient aircraft not only supports its environmental goals but also positions the airline to better compete in the regional market, offering passengers more comfortable and eco-friendly travel options. This strategic fleet enhancement is set to play a crucial role in the airline’s growth strategy, catering to the increasing demand for affordable and sustainable air travel in the Asia-Pacific region.
