Cebu Pacific Air, based in Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport, has signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the purchase of 102 A321-200neo aircraft, with options for an additional fifty A320neo Family jets. This landmark deal, expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2024, marks the largest order in the history of the Philippines’ aviation sector.

“The order is designed to provide Cebu Pacific with maximum flexibility to adapt fleet growth to market conditions, with the ability to switch between the A321neo and A320neo,” stated Chief Executive Michael Szucs.

The agreement underscores Cebu Pacific’s strategic move to enhance its fleet capacity and operational efficiency amid evolving market dynamics. The airline has selected the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines to power these new aircraft, further emphasizing its commitment to modern and fuel-efficient aviation technology.

Currently, according to data from the ch-aviation fleets module, Cebu Pacific operates a fleet that includes eighteen A320-200Ns and fifteen A321-200NX aircraft, with additional orders pending delivery. The airline’s fleet strategy also includes ten A321-200NY(XLR)s on firm order, reflecting ongoing evaluation of fleet requirements for future operations.

Cebu Pacific operates under a mixed ownership model, owning some of its mainline fleet and leasing others. Recently, the airline executed a sale/leaseback transaction with Aviation Capital Group for its fifteenth A321neo, demonstrating its financial strategy to optimize fleet management.

The expansion initiative positions Cebu Pacific Air for sustained growth and operational resilience in the competitive Southeast Asian aviation market, anticipating increased demand for air travel and cargo services in the coming years.
