Cebu Pacific Explores Future Integration of AirSWIFT Operations
Cebu Pacific Air (5J, Manila) has indicated the potential for future integration of AirSWIFT (T6, Manila), which it acquired for USD31 million in October. However, the airline has clarified that no immediate plans or timelines are in place for this initiative.
“We think, over time, we will integrate it,” said Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific’s President and CCO, in a recent interview with InsiderPH. His comments sparked significant media attention, prompting Cebu Pacific to issue a statement to the Philippine Stock Exchange on December 3:
“The company acknowledges it has explored the potential integration of the AirSWIFT brand into its operations. However, this is not an initiative currently planned for the near future. While integration remains a possibility, no definitive plans have been formulated.”
AirSWIFT, a niche carrier operating two ATR42-600s and three ATR72-600s, serves leisure destinations such as Cebu, Caticlan, Busuanga, Panglao, and its stronghold, El Nido, a gateway to the Bacuit archipelago. The acquisition strengthens Cebu Pacific’s presence in these popular tourist markets.
Cebu Pacific continues to thrive, reporting a USD96 million net profit for the first half of 2024, driven by robust passenger demand. The airline also recently signed a USD24 billion deal with Airbus to acquire up to 102 A321-200Ns, with deliveries set to begin in 2029.
While the integration of AirSWIFT remains a long-term consideration, Cebu Pacific’s focus is on leveraging its expanding fleet and operational capabilities to meet growing travel demand.
