Celebrity Cruises Adds New Captain-Curated Shore Excursions in Greece
Celebrity Cruises announced a new series of “Captain-Curated” shore excursions in Greece that will take place on every ship sailing the Greek Isles during summer 2022.
In addition to visiting the history of Rhodes and Thessaloniki, the distilleries and wineries of Nafplio and Corfu, or the picturesque seaside town of Chania, the Captain-Curated shore excursions combine destination experiences with hidden gems to create the Captain’s ideal day in port.
“What a dream come true for our guests to experience one of the world’s most breathtaking regions through the people who know it best – our Captains, who either grew up in Greece or have spent their career sailing to and visiting its ports,” Celebrity CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said.
The program includes Celebrity passengers visiting Katakolon and enjoying the history of Olympia before enjoying its local delicacies at a family-owned olive mill. In Athens, travelers will visit the Acropolis and partake in a kebab lunch at Bairaktaris Tavern.
While in Mykonos, Celebrity guests will visit the narrow streets and alleys and stop at five different venues to sample the island’s culinary secrets. The cruise line will also visit Santorini, which features a Greek lunch at a Captain’s favorite spot in the beautiful capital village of Fira.
“Celebrity Cruises has a proud Greek heritage and Greece holds a special place in our hearts that we are now uniquely sharing with our guests,” Lutoff-Perlo continued.
Celebrity Cruises is rooted in Greek origins, with 70 percent of marine officers across the fleet hailing from Greece, including more than 40 Captains and Chief Engineers. The cruise line was founded in 1988 by the Chandris family of Greece.
Earlier this month, Celebrity announced that Olympic gymnast Simone Biles would be the Godmother of the new Celebrity Beyond ship.
