Ghana-based helicopter operator Century Aviation has revealed plans to expand into fixed-wing operations with scheduled air taxi and cargo services using the 19-seat Cessna SkyCourier 408. The company aims to introduce reliable short-haul connectivity to underserved markets across Ghana while supporting industries such as oil, gas, and mining.

According to reports in News Ghana, The Chronicle, and Ghana News, Textron Aviation’s regional distributor Africair conducted a demonstration flight on September 25 from Accra to Ho using the SkyCourier N408TA. While the flight did not appear on ADS-B tracking data, records show the aircraft departed Wichita, Kansas, on September 8 and arrived in Accra on September 23 after a 16-day journey that included multiple international stopovers.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that Africair’s demonstration flight was authorized under a special one-time permit to assist Century Aviation in evaluating future investment opportunities. The regulator also clarified that the company is currently certified only for offshore helicopter operations.

Century Aviation said it has been working with Africair for four years to develop a new air taxi concept aimed at improving domestic air transport and regional accessibility. The operator intends to provide both passenger and cargo services using the SkyCourier, designed for short takeoff and landing performance on unpaved runways. The initiative marks a significant step toward diversifying Ghana’s aviation sector and enhancing connectivity for remote communities and business operations.
