Chad’s Royal Airways to Launch First Int’l Route

Royal Airways, a privately owned carrier based in Chad, will launch its first international service later this year with flights between N’Djamena and Douala, Cameroon. The new route is scheduled to begin on September 15, 2025, and will operate three times per week, according to the airline’s announcement on social media.
The carrier received its air operator’s certificate (AOC) in July 2023 and has since developed a domestic network linking the capital to seven cities across Chad. Current operations include five weekly flights to Abéché, three to Amdjarass, two each to Faya-Largeau, Moundou, and Sarh, and a weekly service to Am Timan.
Royal Airways’ fleet is small but expanding. It operates one ATR42-300, registered TT-ROB, which joined from the Chadian Air Force in March 2025. The airline also flies one Embraer E140, TT-DEW, delivered in June 2024. Two additional E140s are due from Regional One, currently stored in South Africa, while a Falcon 900EX remains in long-term storage in the United States.
The launch of international services marks an important step for the airline, positioning it as a new player in regional African connectivity. The Douala route is expected to strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Chad and Cameroon while offering travelers more direct options.
Royal Airways’ expansion underscores the growing role of privately owned airlines in Africa, as governments and investors push to improve connectivity across the continent and reduce reliance on foreign carriers.
