Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in North Carolina is advancing with its $600 million terminal lobby expansion project, aiming for completion by 2025. The airport has announced the opening of the latest phase in this extensive renovation effort.

Currently, the terminal lobby expansion project is in its fifth phase out of six. This multi-year initiative is designed to enhance and expand the facility, increasing capacity and improving passenger amenities, including expanded security and baggage claim areas.

Starting July 31, passengers will benefit from the new pedestrian bridges that connect CLT’s hourly parking and rental car facility directly to the terminal. These skybridges are located on the fifth floor of the parking deck and link to the third level of the terminal lobby, all under a large 146,000-square-foot glass canopy. This addition will provide enhanced convenience and weather protection for travelers.

The new bridges will complement the existing underground walkways, further improving passenger access and flow within the airport.

In the first half of 2024, CLT served over 232 million passengers, marking a 12.1% increase compared to the previous year. The airport offers connections to 186 destinations, including 39 international locations, underscoring its role as a major hub for American Airlines and a key gateway for travelers.
