Chile’s SKY Airline Applies for US Authorisation
Chilean carrier SKY Airline has submitted an application for a US Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) and exemption, with plans to commence operations between Chile and the United States. Initially, the airline aims to utilize its US-approved subsidiary, SKY Airline Perú, connecting through Peru. SKY Airline will place its ‘H2’ code on SKY Airline Perú’s flights in the initial phase. The carrier intends to introduce direct services from Chile once it takes delivery of its Airbus ACV!A3212NYLs, for which it has ten orders.
SKY Airline Perú received its US FACP in 2020 and launched daily services from Lima International to Miami International in June 2022. While Lima to Miami is its sole current US route, it is the only route operated under its Peruvian ‘H8’ code, with other flights using the Chilean unit’s ‘H2’ code. The airline’s US destinations from Lima also include Cancún and Punta Cana. SKY Airline’s US operations are expected to expand further with direct flights from Santiago de Chile once it introduces its new A321neo aircraft. The carrier did not disclose specific routes in its recent announcement.
