China Airlines Introduces Pantsuit Uniforms for Female Staff

China Airlines, the Taiwanese flag carrier, has introduced a new pantsuit uniform option for its female flight attendants, marking a significant step towards gender equality in the airline industry. This change allows all female employees in front-line service roles—including ground crews, ticketing staff, and flight attendants at Songshan Airport (TSA), Taoyuan Airport (TPE), and Kaohsiung Airport (KHH)—to choose between wearing a traditional skirt uniform or the new pantsuit based on personal preference or work requirements.

The initiative, which rolled out its first batch of pantsuits on January 1, 2025, has been met with positive feedback from the staff. Flight attendants have described the pantsuit as a “breath of fresh air,” providing more comfort and flexibility to perform tasks such as kneeling or adjusting luggage aboard the plane, all while maintaining the airline’s signature elegance.

China Airlines states that this move helps break down traditional stereotypes that typically see female service staff in skirt suits, emphasizing a progressive shift towards more practical and inclusive uniform policies. The airline also highlighted that offering both uniform options not only maintains the “gentle grace” for which it is known but also showcases the professionalism of modern women.

This development is part of China Airlines’ ongoing commitment to employee diversity, aiming to create a more inclusive work environment that respects individual choices and promotes equality.
