Choice Hotels Publishes First Full Emissions Report

Choice Hotels has released its first comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory, reporting Scope 1, 2 and, for the first time, Scope 3 emissions as it moves to set science-based reduction targets. The franchised hotel company calculated its full carbon footprint to better understand emissions associated with its operations, franchisee properties and the lifecycle of guest stays. Choice expects these data to inform its path toward measurable reductions in energy use and storage, in line with global efforts to limit climate change.
In another sustainability milestone, Choice has deepened its partnership with the National Park Foundation by contributing $150,000 in annual donations and launching a feature that allows Choice Privileges members to convert reward points directly into park-supporting gifts. With 95 percent of its U.S. properties located within a 90-minute drive of a national park, Choice is uniquely positioned to engage travelers in conservation efforts. The company’s support will bolster the foundation’s work to restore trails, protect wildlife habitats and fund educational programs, ensuring that both present visitors and future generations can enjoy America’s most treasured landscapes.
Choice’s commitment to local communities was also on display through the fifth anniversary of its Your Community, Your Choice grant program. Since 2019, the initiative has awarded $275,000 to nonprofits chosen by hotel owners to address causes close to home. The 2024 grants supported organizations tackling food insecurity, assisting veterans, aiding survivors of abuse and human trafficking, funding youth education, and helping animal welfare shelters. By empowering franchisees to nominate and vote for the charities they most value, Choice has fostered a grassroots approach to giving back that reflects the diverse needs of its more than 7,000 properties.
Industry recognition has followed Choice’s broad impact. In 2025, Newsweek and Statista named the company one of America’s Most Responsible Companies, citing its environmental programs, community engagement and ethical practices. The hotel franchisor also earned the inaugural World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Award in 2024 for installing CarbinX technology at the Radisson Blu Mall of America. Developed in collaboration with CleanO2, CarbinX captures carbon dioxide emissions on site and sequesters them permanently in synthetic limestone, making the Minnesota property the first hotel worldwide to deploy this pioneering solution.
Choice’s efforts to promote safety and human rights were honored with the PACT Freedom Award, recognizing the company’s leadership in preventing human trafficking. Through staff training, guest awareness campaigns and partnerships with law enforcement, Choice has made its properties safer for vulnerable populations and bolstered the travel industry’s collective response to this global crime.
