Clay Lacy Expands with New Sun Valley FBO; Large Jet Permit Revoked

Clay Lacy Aviation (CLY, Van Nuys) has secured a lease to develop a new Fixed Base Operation (FBO) at Sun Valley Airport, Idaho. Spanning 10 acres (40,500 square meters), the facility will be Clay Lacy’s fourth FBO, joining locations in Van Nuys, CA, Oxford, CT, and Santa Ana, CA. Construction will commence after design finalization and permit approval, though no opening date has been specified.

In a separate development, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has revoked Clay Lacy’s interstate and foreign certificates for large jet operations due to a prolonged absence of such aircraft in its fleet. The DOT decisions, issued on September 5 and November 6, 2024, come as the company had not utilized these certificates in recent years, making the revocation a formality without impact on current operations.

Clay Lacy initially obtained the permit in 2004 in anticipation of adding a Boeing 737-700(BBJ) to its fleet, a type it operated between 2006 and 2012. Since retiring these aircraft, the DOT determined that dormancy conditions were met and revoked the permit with no opposition from Clay Lacy.

Currently, Clay Lacy Aviation’s Part 135-certified fleet includes 55 jets, the largest being two Legacy 600s, allowing the operator to maintain a robust service without the need for large jet authorization.
