COMAC (Shanghai Pudong) has officially rebranded its inaugural aircraft, the ARJ21-700 regional jet, as the C909, aligning the designation with its narrowbody counterpart, the C919. This strategic branding move reflects COMAC’s efforts to create a cohesive identity across its aircraft lineup, reported ch-aviation.com.

The first ARJ21 featuring the new C909 branding, registered as B-099A (msn 10156), has been repainted in a striking new livery at Shanghai Pudong Airport. This aircraft is set to make its official debut at the upcoming Zhuhai Air Show in November 2024, generating significant anticipation within the aviation community.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, COMAC has successfully built a total of 146 ARJ21-700 aircraft to date. Currently, one unit, msn 101, is stored for display purposes. The ARJ21-700 is operational with eleven different operators across China, excluding COMAC itself, as well as with TransNusa in Indonesia. The largest operators of this regional jet are Air China and Chengdu Airlines, each operating 30 units.

In addition to the rebranding of the ARJ21-700, COMAC has secured orders for an additional 360 aircraft under the new C909 designation, indicating robust demand for this regional jet.

Looking ahead, COMAC is also in the development phase of the C929, a small widebody aircraft, further diversifying its portfolio and positioning itself in various segments of the aviation market. This ongoing innovation underscores COMAC’s commitment to expanding its presence in the global aviation industry while catering to the evolving needs of airlines worldwide.
