Condor Airlines Flight to Germany Catches Fire Mid-Air, Diverted to Italy

A Germany-bound Condor Airlines flight from Corfu, Greece, was forced to make an emergency landing in Brindisi, Italy, on August 16, after one of its engines caught fire shortly after takeoff. The Boeing 757-300 (D-ABOK), operating as flight DE 3665, was carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members when the crew detected abnormal airflow in the right engine at an altitude of 36,000 feet.

The flight, originally scheduled to arrive in Düsseldorf at 9:35 p.m. local time, was diverted nearly 40 minutes after departure. While no injuries were reported, an unverified video of the incident quickly went viral on TikTok, showing sparks coming from the aircraft’s engine.

Condor Airlines issued a statement apologizing to passengers, emphasizing that “safety is our top priority at any given time.” The airline confirmed the engine problem was linked to “a disturbance in the air flow supply,” adding that a replacement aircraft was dispatched to complete the journey to Düsseldorf on August 17, 2025. The affected plane remains under technical inspection.

Several passengers described the terrifying experience, recounting moments when the plane briefly lost power. One passenger said they sent “goodbye texts” believing the flight would not make it, while others recalled panic spreading when the aircraft stopped gaining altitude.

Despite the frightening ordeal, all passengers and crew landed safely. Condor has assured travelers that it is cooperating with aviation authorities to investigate the incident and ensure similar situations are prevented in the future.
