July 2023 U.S. travel agency air ticket sales increased 11 percent year over year to nearly $7.6 billion, according to the latest data released by Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) on Thursday.

The month’s strong performance was propelled by a seven percent year-over-year increase in U.S. domestic passenger trips settled through ARC (13,726,481).

July’s impressive figures follow a June that saw sales top $8 billion.

International trips jumped a whopping 16 percent year over year to 8,202,037 in July for a total of 21,928,518 trips settled through ARC.

The average ticket price for a U.S. domestic round-trip air ticket in July 2023 was $528, signaling a five percent decrease both month over month and year over year.

Ancillary sales increased 86 percent year over year to $25,257,331 while ancillary transactions increased 66 percent to 397,102 over the same period, ARC confirmed.

“U.S. air travel demand remains strong as consumers prioritize traveling this summer and into the fall,” ARC chief commercial officer Steve Solomon said in a statement. “While international travel growth has outpaced domestic for much of 2023, July’s results are an encouraging sign for U.S. airlines.”
