Court Approves Air Belgium’s Cargo Business Transfer to CMA CGM

Air Belgium has secured a vital lifeline after the Business Court of Brabant Wallon authorized the transfer of the airline’s cargo operations to the French logistics giant CMA CGM. This decision allows CMA CGM to fully take over Air Belgium’s cargo business, including its fleet of four aircraft: two Airbus A330-243F freighters and two Boeing 747-8F freighters. As part of the acquisition, CMA CGM will retain 186 employees out of Air Belgium’s total workforce of 401, maintaining positions across administrative, operational, ground, and flight staff, as well as flight crew.

The transaction comes after CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest shipping and logistics companies, submitted an official takeover offer for Air Belgium’s cargo operations. The French group, which already operates CMA CGM Air Cargo, also owns a fleet of two Boeing 777-200F freighters and one A330-200F.

On March 6, the same court rejected a competing bid from Air One Belgium, a consortium including Peso Aviation Management and One Holding International, citing months of delays. The consortium has expressed its intention to challenge the decision in court, claiming it met all conditions for the acquisition.

Following the court’s approval, CMA CGM will continue Air Belgium’s operations from Brussels National and Liège airports, ensuring the continued development of its cargo services in the region.
