Coventry Airport to Close Permanently in June 2026

Coventry Airport in the UK will close permanently on June 11, 2026, marking the end of operations nearly 90 years after the airport was founded. Tenants have been asked to vacate the site by May 9, ahead of plans to demolish the airport and redevelop the land for a battery manufacturing facility.
Airport owner Rigby Group applied to the UK Civil Aviation Authority in early December to remove the surrounding controlled airspace and formally cease runway operations. The move confirms the long-term closure of the airport, which has not handled scheduled passenger services since 2008.
While commercial passenger flights ended more than a decade ago, Coventry Airport has continued to support a mix of business jet, cargo, and general aviation traffic. The site has also played a role in pilot training and air ambulance operations, making its closure a significant change for the region’s aviation and emergency services landscape.
