Cruise Bookings Surge Past Fall Forecasts, 2026 Season Half Full

Cruise bookings are exceeding expectations heading into the end of the year, according to new research from Cleveland Research Company. The firm’s latest analysis shows that 46 percent of travel advisors and cruise line operators report stronger-than-expected bookings over the past 45 days—matching September’s positive trend and setting up a strong close to 2025 ahead of Wave Season.
Despite what analysts describe as an “underwhelming” travel environment shaped by geopolitical and economic concerns, cruising continues to outperform other sectors thanks to its strong value proposition. Total cruise revenue booked has grown 6 percent year-to-date, while booking volumes are up by 2 to 3 percent in recent weeks.
Travel planners are focusing heavily on the 2026 cruise season, which is already nearly half booked. Prices for 2025 sailings are up around 4 percent, though demand remains steady as travelers continue to prioritize cruise vacations.
River cruising is also outperforming expectations, with 61 percent of travel advisors citing stronger-than-usual demand. Bookings for 2027 river cruises are “extremely strong,” driven by growing interest in more exotic destinations. River cruise pricing is also up 4 percent year-over-year, but the modest increase has not slowed sales.
Major cruise brands including Viking, Norwegian, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean continue to report robust financial performance and elevated demand across key markets. Celebrity Cruises even expanded early access for its 2027 river cruise program after initial sailings sold out, underscoring the industry’s remarkable momentum as it sails into 2026 and beyond.
