Cruise Industry Leaders Share Hot Takes at CruiseWorld 2025
The cruise industry’s top sales and marketing executives took the stage at Northstar’s CruiseWorld convention in Fort Lauderdale, sharing insights on destinations, food, Gen Z travelers and sustainability during a lively, game show-style panel session.
The panel, titled Sales & Marketing Masterminds of the Cruise Industry, brought together leaders from the biggest cruise brands: Katina Athanasiou of Celebrity Cruises; Rob Coleman of Holland America Line & Seabourn; Erin Douglas of MSC; Katie Kania of Norwegian Cruise Line; Carmen Roig of Princess Cruises; and Janet Wygert of Carnival Cruise Line.
Panelists were asked rapid-fire “hot take” questions covering trends shaping cruising today. Roig kicked things off by debunking the biggest misconception about Princess Cruises, noting the brand has evolved far beyond its “old love boat” reputation with modern ships and elevated offerings.
When asked about the next big cruise destination, Coleman pointed to Alaska, explaining that Holland America Line is investing $70 million in its Denali property and expects record guest numbers in 2027.
Athanasiou weighed in on cruise food, calling it “completely underrated” thanks to the variety, flexibility and dining freedom available onboard.
The conversation then turned to Gen Z travelers. Wygert highlighted that Gen Z is already cruising in strong numbers and has become an influential demographic thanks to their social media presence, which organically promotes cruise vacations across platforms.
Sustainability—one of the industry’s most pressing issues—was also front and center. Douglas emphasized that environmental action is “totally a reality,” noting the industry’s continued investments in energy-efficient technologies, recycling initiatives and reductions in single-use plastics.
The session was one of many at the three-day CruiseWorld event, which brings together industry professionals for workshops, networking and exhibitions focused on the future of global cruising.
