In an exciting development for pet owners, Cruise Tails has partnered with Expedia Cruises of West Orlando to offer the first-ever dog-friendly cruise, set to depart in November 2025 from Tampa, Florida. This unique voyage aboard Margaritaville at Sea’s flagship vessel, The Islander, will provide a one-of-a-kind vacation for dog parents and their pets.

This inaugural sailing will accommodate 250 dogs, along with their owners and other human guests. Each passenger will be celebrated as an Inaugural Ambassador for this historic cruise. The ship will feature a range of dog-focused activities, including dog shows, training workshops, costume contests, themed parades, and more. Special gifts and pet products from premium vendors will also be provided, ensuring a memorable experience for all participants.

Steve Matzke, the founder of Cruise Tails, created the concept after struggling to find travel options for his Yorkie, Louis. “I consider Louis part of the family, and for years I missed out on cruises because I couldn’t travel without him,” Matzke explained. “I wanted to change that for myself and other dog lovers.”

Cruise Tails is implementing several key measures to ensure a smooth journey for both pets and their owners. Guests will be required to apply and agree to specific protocols, such as keeping dogs within designated areas and meeting vaccination requirements. Each family will also be assigned a dedicated Pet Butler, who will maintain cleanliness on the ship and in their cabins. Additionally, dogs will have access to private relief stations on their balconies.

To maintain safety, all dogs must provide a health certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian, confirming that their vaccinations are up to date. Onboard amenities will cater to both dogs and their owners, offering services like grooming, puppy massages, and dog-friendly splash zones. While dogs enjoy these special amenities, their human companions can take advantage of exclusive spaces like the Margaritaville casino, the St. Somewhere Spa & Salon, and various dining and entertainment options.

Although the exact dates for the cruise haven’t been finalized, the waitlist for this groundbreaking experience will soon open. Cruise Tails plans to release more details on the cruise’s protocols and schedule in the coming weeks. Dogs will be required to be leashed in public spaces, and all guests will need to sign a photo waiver, as this dog-filled voyage is sure to be a hit on social media.

This dog-friendly cruise offers a dream getaway for pet lovers, combining relaxation, fun, and companionship on the open sea. With the inaugural voyage set to sail at the end of 2025, it promises to set a new standard in pet-friendly travel.
