Curaçao-Hato Airport Sets Record with 2.3M Passengers in 2024

Curaçao-Hato International Airport (CUR) achieved a record-breaking 2024, surpassing 2.3 million passenger movements, marking a 24% increase from the previous year. As a tourism-dependent island destination, the airport’s success was closely linked to its ongoing collaboration with the Curaçao Tourism Board, which also celebrated a significant milestone with over 700,000 stay-over visitors—a 20% rise from 2023.

The growth at CUR was driven by a strategic focus on boosting seat capacity and improving load factors on existing routes. Efforts to diversify inbound traffic included targeted marketing campaigns and strengthened partnerships with airlines, which resulted in expanded services from key regions such as South America, Canada, and the U.S.

Notable milestones included Azul Airlines, which doubled its flights from Belo Horizonte International Airport (CNF) to four times per week, and Delta Air Lines, which upgraded its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) service to daily. Air Canada also expanded its seasonal route from Montréal Trudeau International Airport (YUL) by adding additional frequencies. CUR further benefited from new routes, such as Wingo’s seasonal flights from Medellín’s José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) and Azul’s 4X-weekly service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

During Routes Americas 2025, Peggy Croes, Senior Vice President of Aviation Market Development at CUR, shared the airport’s strategy for continued growth. Between 2025 and 2027, Curaçao is expected to see a 50% increase in hotel room capacity, which will drive demand for more air service. Croes emphasized that the airport is working with both existing airline partners and potential new carriers to capitalize on this tourism surge.

Croes also highlighted the U.S. West Coast as a key market for expansion, with the potential for new aircraft types to unlock additional opportunities. South America was another focus area, with strong potential for new routes to complement existing connections from Bogotá, Brazil, and Panama.

As a long-standing member of Routes 360, CUR leverages the platform to engage directly with airlines and promote its latest developments. On the value of the membership, Croes noted, “It is a dedicated air service development platform. Airlines know that it is industry related, which makes it a far easier and pragmatic way to keep the airlines on top of what is going on as far as expansion or capacity. It allows us to give airlines a whole picture and be very candid about it.”
