Dallas Love Field $1B Upgrade May Include Southwest Lounge

Dallas Love Field Airport has unveiled plans for a $1 billion modernization project designed to handle surging passenger volumes and enhance traveler amenities. The ambitious renovation aims to expand capacity, improve passenger flow, and introduce premium features — including the airport’s first-ever airline lounges, with Southwest Airlines reportedly considering launching its own.
Passenger traffic at Love Field reached 18 million in 2024 and is projected to climb to 24 million within the next few years. To meet this demand, the airport’s redevelopment will include replacing the aging Parking Garage A with a new terminal area featuring expanded ticketing and baggage claim facilities. The main concourse will also be widened by 50 feet, creating additional space for shops, dining, and passenger circulation.
Construction is slated to begin in 2027 and will span approximately six years, with phased development to minimize disruption to current operations. Airport officials said the project is designed not only to accommodate growth but also to deliver a more efficient and comfortable travel experience.
One of the most anticipated additions is the introduction of passenger lounges — a first for Dallas Love Field. As the dominant carrier at the airport, Southwest Airlines is exploring the possibility of opening its own branded lounge, a move that would mark a new level of premium service for the low-cost airline.
The $1 billion overhaul is part of Love Field’s long-term vision to remain a modern, passenger-friendly hub while maintaining its signature convenience. With expanded infrastructure, new amenities, and potential premium spaces, the airport is positioning itself to meet the next decade’s travel demands and strengthen its role as Southwest’s primary base of operations.
