De Havilland Canada Unveils Next-Generation DHC-6 Twin Otter
De Havilland Canada has announced the launch of the next-generation DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G at the Paris International Air Show. The company has secured combined purchase agreements and letters of intent for a total of 45 aircraft.
The DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G represents the fifth generation of the popular utility aircraft. With a seating capacity of up to 19 passengers and a range of up to 3,450 nautical miles, the new model offers a lighter weight, increased payload range, and reduced operating costs compared to its predecessor. It also features a completely redesigned cabin interior and a state-of-the-art Garmin G1000 NXi fully integrated avionics suite in the flight deck.
Brian Chafe, CEO of De Havilland Canada, expressed his enthusiasm for the aircraft’s evolution, highlighting its unrivaled reliability and versatility over the past 50 years. He stated, “Based on extensive customer feedback, we are proud to present the new DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G, taking this legendary aircraft to new heights.”
Jetcraft Commercial, a global leader in aircraft trading and leasing, has been announced as the launch customer for the Classic 300-G. The company will purchase 10 aircraft of this type and lease them to other operators. Raphael Haddad, CEO of Jetcraft Commercial, expects a high demand for the DHC-6 family and considers this a significant milestone as the company ventures into leasing brand new aircraft for the first time.
The DHC-6 Twin Otter is renowned for its ability to perform various roles, including passenger transportation, VIP transport, cargo movement, medevac operations, and special missions in challenging environments. When equipped with amphibious floats, the aircraft can seamlessly transition between land and water landings.
With the introduction of the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G, De Havilland Canada reinforces its presence in the Canadian aerospace industry. The production of these aircraft will create 80 permanent jobs in Calgary, Alberta, and 91 jobs in Victoria, British Columbia.
