Delta Adds Hong Kong and Chicago O’Hare Flights From LAX

Delta Air Lines is set to enhance its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) hub with two major route launches in June 2026—daily nonstop service to Hong Kong and three daily flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD).
Starting June 6, Delta will return to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) after a seven-year hiatus, operating the 6,297-mile transpacific route with Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The widebody jets will feature four cabin classes and over 20 tons of bellyhold cargo capacity, expanding Delta’s freight offerings between two leading cargo hubs.
Delta will compete on the LAX–HKG route against Cathay Pacific and United Airlines, which currently operate up to three and two daily flights, respectively. Cathay controls 63% of seat capacity and United 37%, according to OAG data. Delta’s entry adds 4,300 weekly seats, boosting nonstop capacity on the route by more than 20%.
The route strengthens Delta’s Asia-Pacific network from LAX, joining Tokyo Haneda, Sydney, Shanghai Pudong, and the upcoming Melbourne service scheduled for December 2025. The move comes as Hong Kong prepares to host the Routes World 2025 event.
On June 7, Delta will also begin three daily roundtrips between LAX and ORD using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline will face stiff competition in the already saturated market, which includes American and United operating a combined 141 weekly frequencies.
Delta currently leads LAX in seat capacity with a 17.8% share, followed by United (16.6%) and American (15.4%). The new routes align with Delta’s $2.3 billion investment in LAX infrastructure, including the Sky Way terminal and Terminal 3 redevelopment.
