Delta Adds Marrakech and Accra Routes from ATL
Delta Air Lines is set to broaden its international network with exciting new routes that will connect travelers from its Atlanta hub to vibrant destinations in Africa and beyond. Starting later this year, Delta will launch service to Marrakech, Morocco, from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), reinforcing its commitment to expanding its global reach.
Beginning on October 25, Delta will operate flights between ATL and Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) on a three-times-weekly schedule. The route will be served exclusively by Delta using the Boeing 767-400ER, ensuring a comfortable and reliable travel experience for passengers eager to explore Morocco’s rich culture and historic sites. Delta’s decision to focus on Marrakech comes as the airline looks to capitalize on growing demand for leisure travel to destinations known for their unique blend of tradition and modernity.
In addition to the new Marrakech service, Delta is set to further boost its Africa portfolio with seasonal flights connecting Atlanta to Accra, Ghana. Launching on December 1, these daily flights will be operated using the Airbus A330-900neo, an aircraft that has already proven its efficiency and appeal on the airline’s successful JFK-ACC route. The expansion into Accra is part of Delta’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity to the African continent, offering more options for both business and leisure travelers while tapping into the region’s burgeoning tourism market.
Delta’s network expansion in Africa is not without competition. Other North American carriers have also been targeting the Moroccan market; for instance, United Airlines is serving RAK from Newark, while Air Transat operates flights from Montreal Trudeau International Airport (YUL). Meanwhile, Royal Air Maroc continues to dominate by flying from Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) to key North American destinations such as Miami, New York’s JFK, Toronto Pearson, Washington Dulles (IAD), and YUL, with Air Canada also servicing the YUL-CMN route.
Alongside its African network enhancements, Delta is further diversifying its international portfolio with plans to launch a new seasonal route between Austin, Texas, and Cancun, Mexico. Set to begin on December 20 and continue until mid-April 2026, this daily service will be operated using an Airbus A320. The new Austin-Cancun route is expected to attract leisure travelers seeking a convenient and comfortable option for a winter sun escape, thereby expanding Delta’s appeal among a broader customer base.
These new initiatives come at a time when Delta is intensifying its focus on strategic route development to meet evolving traveler demands. By adding Marrakech and Accra to its network, Delta not only strengthens its presence in key growth markets but also offers passengers more diverse options for international travel from its ATL hub.
