Delta Air Lines Strengthens Commitment to Racial Equity Through Support for the Equal Justice Initiative
Delta Air Lines, a leading global carrier, has further solidified its pledge to racial equity by backing the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a nonprofit dedicated to ending racial inequality, mass incarceration, and excessive punishment in the U.S. While the exact donation amount remains undisclosed, Delta has also funded visits for nearly 1,000 of its employees to the EJI’s Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.
These significant sites chronicle America’s history of racial injustice, from the days of slavery to the present issues of mass incarceration. Their goal is not just to educate, but to inspire actionable change.
For Delta’s employees, this visit offered a deep dive into America’s racial history, emphasizing the need for both individuals and corporations to actively participate in solution-building. Keyra Lynn Johnson, Delta’s VP and Chief of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, emphasized the mutual goals of Delta and EJI in creating equitable outcomes. She stated the importance of embracing the truth and using its lessons to “inform a more just world for all of us”.
This collaboration with EJI is a part of Delta’s extensive approach to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and externally. Delta has revamped its hiring processes to minimize bias, launched training endeavors to nurture a culture of respect, and founded business resource groups to embolden its workforce.
