Delta Air Lines Unveils Fleet-wide Interior Overhaul
Delta Air Lines is launching an extensive retrofit of its entire fleet, introducing a fresh and modern cabin design that passengers will soon experience. The Atlanta-based airline announced this ambitious project, which will include new seat upholstery, enhanced cushioning, updated mood lighting, and an overall refined aesthetic throughout its aircraft.
According to Delta’s Vice President of Customer Experience Design, Mauricio Parise, the revamped cabin interior blends functionality with beauty, creating a fresh and timeless atmosphere that aligns with evolving customer preferences. A major highlight of this redesign is the introduction of modernized seats, transitioning from light blue to a striking navy blue with red accents. This move follows similar upgrades by other airlines, including Southwest Airlines and British Airways.
Business-class travelers in the Delta One cabin will enjoy new memory-foam padding and covers made from a breathable wool and nylon blend designed to enhance temperature regulation. Premium Select (Delta’s Premium Economy) and first-class seats on domestic flights will feature new engineered leather covers and memory-foam cushions. Additionally, all wide-body aircraft in the main cabin and Comfort+ will receive memory-foam cushioning, while the rest of the fleet will see updates with engineered leather and a fresh color scheme.
Beyond the seating, Delta is enhancing bulkheads and dividers to feature a “celestial sky” pattern, with lavatories also receiving aesthetic upgrades to match. One notable enhancement is the adjustable cabin lighting, which will create various moods during the flight. For example, warm lighting will greet passengers during boarding, while a candlelit atmosphere will be set during meal service.
Delta has already commenced the installation of these new interiors, with the first upgraded aircraft—a narrow-body Boeing 757—set to enter service later this year. The flagship Airbus A350 will follow in early 2025. Delta is committed to ensuring that its entire fleet reflects this new design over the coming years, as part of its broader strategy to enhance the premium travel experience.
