Delta Air Lines, the second-largest airline in the United States, and Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier, have revealed plans to expand their code-sharing agreement to encompass all 17 new routes that Aeromexico intends to introduce to the US starting in January 2024.

This code-sharing arrangement enables both airlines to sell seats on each other’s flights, facilitating seamless connections for their passengers. The new routes are set to link 14 Mexican cities, including Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Tijuana, with 16 US destinations such as Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Aeromexico will operate these routes using Boeing 737-800 and Embraer 190 aircraft, with Delta contributing marketing and sales support.

This partnership will result in a 30% increase in available seats on US-Mexico flights compared to 2023, translating to over 90 daily flights across almost 60 routes. Delta and Aeromexico anticipate that this expansion will enhance the coverage and connectivity of their network, providing greater choices and convenience for travelers on both sides of the border.

Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO, emphasized the collaboration’s long-standing history and shared commitment to delivering exceptional service in the US-Mexico market, expressing confidence that the new routes will further strengthen their partnership and offer added benefits to customers.

Andres Conesa, CEO of Aeromexico, noted that the introduction of these new routes reflects the increasing demand and potential of the US-Mexico market. He expressed pride in partnering with Delta to connect more people and businesses between the two countries and highlighted the quality and reliability of their joint service and network.

Delta and Aeromexico are both members of the SkyTeam alliance, enabling them to extend reciprocal loyalty benefits and lounge access to their frequent flyers. These two airlines have been code-sharing since 1994 and have had a joint cooperation agreement since 2017.
