Delta Celebrates 100 Years with New Centennial Livery

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is celebrating a century of aviation excellence in 2025, marking 100 years since its earliest incarnation, Huff Daland Crop Dusters Inc., took to the skies in Macon, Georgia, in 1925. As part of its centenary celebrations, Delta is introducing a special centenary livery on two of its Airbus aircraft to honor this historic milestone. One of the aircraft chosen for this tribute is the Airbus A321neo, registration N589DT. Currently being prepared for delivery at the Airbus final assembly plant in Hamburg, Germany, the aircraft—still in its test phase with the registration D-AZAI—recently emerged from the hangar at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport (XFW) to begin engine runs and ground testing ahead of its first flight in the coming days.
The new centenary livery is a modern reinterpretation of Delta’s iconic design, integrating elements of the current livery while introducing a bold silver color scheme that sets it apart. Photos of the aircraft reveal midnight blue and metallic royal blue bands that flow along the rear fuselage and sweep up the tail. The iconic Delta “widget” logo, now depicted in silver instead of the customary red, remains on the vertical stabilizer, while the mid-fuselage displays similar colored bands leading to the large “100 Years” titles boldly presented on the forward fuselage. The engine cowlings mirror the midnight blue of the tail, ensuring a cohesive and striking look that symbolizes Delta’s legacy and future.
Delta plans to receive this Airbus A321neo in March 2025, marking its return to service in celebration of the airline’s 100th anniversary of commercial service. The A321neo, known for its fuel efficiency and advanced technology, will join a second aircraft—a factory-fresh Airbus A350-900—also scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025, both sporting the new centenary livery.
In addition to the exterior makeover, Delta is set to refresh its cabin designs. The airline is rolling out an innovative interior modernization program across its narrowbody Boeing 757 fleet, which is widely used for domestic and short-haul international routes. Later in 2025, the updated cabin design will also extend to its widebody Airbus A350 fleet. This initiative is designed to enhance the passenger experience through improved comfort, modern amenities, and a more intuitive layout, reinforcing Delta’s commitment to delivering exceptional service.
Delta kicked off its centenary celebrations at the CES 2025 event held in the Las Vegas SPHERE between January 7 and 10, 2025. The event transformed the iconic SPHERE into a 360-degree immersive experience that showcased Delta’s global destinations and celebrated the evolution of aviation over the past 100 years. A specially created animation featured five aircraft representing the airline’s historic milestones, providing a vivid reminder of Delta’s enduring legacy.
With a fleet of 1,007 commercial aircraft and an additional 202 on order, Delta continues to lead the industry into the future. The introduction of the new centenary livery and cabin refresh is not only a tribute to the airline’s storied past but also a bold step toward enhancing the overall travel experience for its guests as it embarks on its next century of innovation and excellence.
