The carrier said the cut came after a slower rebound in travel demand between the two markets. Just over a month after Delta Air Lines announcedit would fly from Dallas Love Field to LaGuardia Airport in New York, the carrier has ditched its plans.

The route, which was planned to begin on June 5, has been quietly eliminated from Delta’s schedule, according to data from Cirium. Delta had planned to fly customers twice daily to LaGuardia out of a Delta-dedicated gate.

Instead, Delta is adding an additional daily flight to Los Angeles International Airport has been added, bringing the carrier to three daily flights to Los Angeles out of Love Field. The carrier is also adding a 6th daily service to Atlanta.

“Delta has delayed the launch of nonstop service between Dallas Love Field and LaGuardia for the time being, due to a slower rebound in travel demand between these two markets,” said Morgan Durrant, a Delta spokesperson. “Dallas customers can still access New York City via DFW airport, where the airline operates a robust schedule, with daily service to LaGuardia five times daily and twice daily service to JFK.”

In June, the carrier settled a seven-year legal fight over the limited number of gates at Love Field, resolving a long-running dispute over coveted spots at the airport that Southwest wanted back from Delta.

Delta also operates out of DFW International Airport, with daily routes to eight of the carrier’s nine U.S. hubs. By July, it was expected for Delta to be the only carrier flying to New York and Los Angeles from both Dallas airports.

Delta’s move had added a challenge to the dominance at Love Field from Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, which accounts for 97% of the airport’s passengers. Seattle-based Alaska is the only other commercial carrier flying from Love Field with routes to Seattle and San Francisco. dallasnews.com
