Delta Unveils Centennial Trading Cards

Delta Air Lines is celebrating its 100th anniversary in style by unveiling a special Centennial-themed edition of collectible trading cards, marking a milestone for the nation’s oldest active American commercial airline. Founded on April 15, 1926, Delta has a rich heritage that spans nearly a century, and this new set of cards is designed to commemorate the airline’s legacy while engaging both longtime enthusiasts and new fans. The Centennial edition is a tribute to Delta’s storied history and its enduring commitment to creating memorable in-flight experiences. The airline has produced over five million of these limited-edition cards, which are now available to be shared by Delta pilots with passengers, continuing a tradition that began in 2003.
In 2003, Delta launched its first trading card series, an initiative that quickly grew into a beloved aspect of the airline’s culture. The very first set, featuring a limited-edition MD-11 card, was released in conjunction with the retirement of that aircraft in 2004. Since then, the trading card collection has expanded to include seven series and 68 unique cards, garnering a dedicated following among the trading community and aviation enthusiasts. These cards have become more than just souvenirs; they serve as a tangible connection between pilots and passengers, capturing the spirit of Delta’s history and innovation in a collectible format.
The new Centennial-themed cards are distinguished by Delta’s special Centennial colors and showcase images of some of the airline’s most iconic aircraft, including the A220-300, 717, 737-800, A321neo, 757-200, 767-300, A330-900, and the A350. Each card is a piece of art that celebrates Delta’s evolution over the decades, blending modern design with nostalgic elements that pay homage to its pioneering past. For passengers flying with Delta Connection, the experience will be further enriched by receiving cards featuring the CRJ-900 and E175, depending on the carrier, thereby extending the collectible series across different segments of Delta’s fleet.
Ryan Gumm, Senior Vice President of Flight Operations for Delta, highlighted the significance of this initiative in a recent statement, noting that Delta pilots have handed out millions of trading cards over the past 22 years. “We have seen over 3 million cards distributed in 2024 alone,” Gumm said, emphasizing that these simple yet impactful interactions have not only enhanced the flight experience but have also fostered meaningful connections between the airline’s crew and its customers. He added that the trading cards are a symbol of Delta’s continuous innovation and commitment to engaging with passengers on a personal level, offering a unique way for travelers to take a piece of Delta’s history with them.
