DHL Air (Austria) has expanded its fleet capabilities with the induction of its first Boeing 767-300ER(BDSF), marking a strategic move to diversify beyond its existing all-Boeing 757 fleet. The newly acquired aircraft, registered as OE-LYA with serial number 27686, commenced revenue service on October 16, 2023, following its recent delivery.

The 23.5-year-old freighter was retired by DHL Air’s sister carrier, DHL Air (Nottingham East Midlands), on September 22, 2023. After undergoing maintenance in Budapest, the aircraft was re-registered in Austria and positioned to Leipzig/Halle on October 13. It promptly operated its inaugural revenue flight for DHL Austria three days later, flying to Bologna, according to AirNav RadarBox ADS-B data.

OE-LYA joins DHL Air (Austria)’s existing fleet, which primarily consists of eighteen Boeing 757-200(PCF) aircraft. The addition of the larger and more versatile Boeing 767-300ER(BDSF) aligns with DHL Air (Austria)’s previously disclosed plans for fleet diversification. The Austrian-registered carrier, a production unit of DHL Express, commenced operations in 2021.

DHL Air, as part of the broader DHL network, operates globally with various carriers under its umbrella. While the older and larger British carrier continues to operate a diverse fleet, including Boeing 757s, Boeing 767s, and Boeing 777s, the addition of the first B767-300ER(BDSF) enhances DHL Air (Austria)’s capacity and operational flexibility.

As DHL continues to strengthen its air cargo capabilities, the induction of the B767-300ER(BDSF) reflects the company’s commitment to meeting growing demand and optimizing its fleet for efficient and reliable freight transport. The broader DHL network includes carriers such as EAT Leipzig (Germany), Air Hong Kong, DHL Aero Expreso (Panama), DHL de Guatemala, DHL International Aviation Middle East (Bahrain), Trans Am Aero Express del Ecuador, and a 50% stake in AeroLogic (in partnership with Lufthansa Group).
