DHS extends Real ID deadline to 2023
The Department of Homeland Security has extended the enforcement deadline for air travelers to have Real ID-compliant identification until May 3, 2023, due to delays that resulted from the coronavirus pandemic. The requirement had previously been extended by one year, and was scheduled for Oct. 1, 2021. Airlines for America applauded the extension, saying, “we appreciate the Department of Homeland Security’s recognition of the impact COVID-19 has had on the states’ abilities to ensure all residents have the opportunity to obtain a REAL ID compliant identification. We look forward to continuing to work with DHS over the next 19 months to raise awareness and educate travelers of the new rules.”
