Royal Caribbean has named legendary music icon Diana Ross as the godmother of its newest cruise ship, Star of the Seas. The singer will take part in the ship’s traditional naming ceremony at the AquaTheater prior to its official debut from Port Canaveral, Florida, in August 2025. Royal Caribbean has confirmed that more details about the event will be revealed soon via its official Instagram channel.

Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, expressed the cruise line’s excitement about the announcement. He noted that Diana Ross represents everything the Icon Class stands for—memorable experiences, timeless moments, and shared joy. “We are thrilled to have Diana Ross join us for the debut of Star of the Seas, the next bold vacation in our revolutionary Icon Class designed to encompass the best a vacation experience can offer,” said Bayley.

He continued by saying, “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together. We can’t wait to welcome Ms. Ross, our guests, and crew to celebrate the arrival of Star this August.”

Following the naming ceremony, Star of the Seas will begin sailing 7-night Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral. The voyages will include calls to both Eastern and Western Caribbean destinations, with a highlight stop at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas. The cruise line’s Icon Class ships are designed to redefine vacation experiences, and the addition of Star of the Seas continues that vision.
