Digital Nomad Hospitality Evolves Amid Return-to-Office Shift

As companies worldwide scale back remote work, digital nomad hospitality is entering a new phase. The rebranding of Selina to Socialtel, following financial troubles and its 2024 acquisition by Collective Hospitality, marks a turning point for the sector. But the demand for flexible, work-friendly accommodations hasn’t disappeared—it’s evolving.
Outsite, a membership-based hospitality brand for digital nomads, is expanding despite return-to-office mandates. CEO Emmanuel Guisset noted a shift from company-employed remote workers to entrepreneurs and freelancers. Outsite plans to grow in Africa and Asia by partnering with hotels aligned with its remote work standards, offering a curated model similar to Design Hotels.
Corporate retreat demand is also surging. French startup Naboo recently raised €20 million to grow its retreat business across Europe. Co-founder Maxime Eduardo said companies now blend office mandates with offsite retreats to rebuild team dynamics, especially for younger staff navigating hybrid work environments.
Despite a drop in full-time remote policies—just 8% of companies now allow under three office days weekly—companies like Gradient, a New York agency, are using remote perks at Outsite locations to attract talent.
Smaller businesses continue to drive demand for flexible travel and remote work arrangements. James Tomlin of VisaDoc said global hiring trends are fueling business travel as companies seek talent abroad. Travel expert Sally Bunnell added that some digital nomads prioritize lifestyle over job roles, choosing to maintain mobility at any cost.
While Selina’s Remote Year has shut down, the next phase of digital nomad hospitality is being shaped by flexible startups, corporate retreats, and evolving work-life priorities.
