Discover Airlines, the leisure-focused subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is set to mark a major milestone by launching its first long-haul flights from Munich Airport (MUC). This exciting expansion signals the airline’s strategic move to broaden its global network and cater to the growing demand for leisure travel, while reinforcing its commitment to connecting customers with vibrant international destinations.

Starting this spring, Discover Airlines will serve three new long-haul destinations from its Munich hub. The inaugural service will connect Munich with Orlando, Florida (MCO), with flights scheduled to begin on March 5, 2025. Shortly thereafter, the airline will launch services to two additional key markets: Windhoek, the capital of Namibia (WDH), on April 1, 2025, and Calgary (YYC), a gateway to the Canadian Rockies, on April 12, 2025. Each of these routes will be operated on a thrice-weekly basis, offering passengers multiple travel options throughout the week.

In a further nod to its dynamic route strategy, Discover Airlines has announced that the Calgary service will be temporarily replaced after the summer season by a new route to Punta Cana (PUJ), one of the Dominican Republic’s most popular beach resort destinations. The routes to Orlando and Windhoek will continue to operate year-round, ensuring that passengers have consistent access to these new markets. This flexible scheduling approach demonstrates Discover Airlines’ commitment to meeting customer demand and adjusting its network in response to seasonal travel trends.

To support the new long-haul network, Discover Airlines will base two of its Airbus A330 aircraft at Munich Airport. These widebody jets, renowned for their comfort and efficiency, are configured to meet the needs of long-haul leisure travelers and will play a key role in expanding the airline’s service offerings. The new A330s will join the existing fleet of six Airbus A320 aircraft already based in Munich, further reinforcing the carrier’s operational strength at its home base.

Since its rebranding from Eurowings Discover in September 2023, Discover Airlines has rapidly expanded its scheduled route network. The airline now serves 32 leisure destinations across Europe, with a strong focus on markets around the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. This aggressive growth in the short-haul segment sets a solid foundation for the current foray into long-haul travel, positioning Discover Airlines as a versatile carrier capable of delivering high-quality travel experiences on both domestic and international routes.

The expansion of Discover Airlines’ network is an important development for the Lufthansa Group’s leisure market strategy. By offering a mix of short-haul and long-haul services, the airline is poised to tap into a broader range of traveler needs—from holidaymakers seeking sun-soaked escapes to families and adventurers eager to explore new cultures and destinations. With its new long-haul routes, Discover Airlines not only enhances its connectivity but also provides a fresh alternative for travelers looking for quality, cost-effective leisure travel.

As Discover Airlines prepares to launch these new routes, passengers can look forward to a modern, customer-centric travel experience characterized by efficient service, competitive pricing, and an expansive network connecting Munich with key global destinations. This long-haul expansion marks a significant chapter in the airline’s evolution and underscores the Lufthansa Group’s ongoing commitment to redefining the future of leisure travel.
